Privacy Policy — Happy Golfers Thailand

Last updated: 14 July 2026

Happy Golfers Thailand („we“, „us“, „our“) operates the website happygolfersthailand.com and the handicap-tracking web app at app.happygolfersthailand.com (together, the „Service“). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the rights you have. We are based in Thailand and process personal data in accordance with Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019) („PDPA“).

By creating an account or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is Happy Golfers Thailand (Thomas Marx). For any privacy question or request, contact us at admin@happygolfersthailand.com.

2. What data we collect

We only collect what we need to run the Service:

Account data. When you register, we collect your name, email address and a password. Your password is never stored in plain text — it is stored as a secure cryptographic hash in our WordPress user system.

Golf data. When you use the app, we store the golfing information you enter: your rounds (date, course, tee, scores hole-by-hole or as a total), the resulting score differentials and Handicap Index, and the course data (course rating, slope, par) you add or edit.

Technical data. Like most websites, our servers automatically record standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type and access times in server logs, for security and troubleshooting. To keep you logged in, the app stores a login token locally in your browser (local storage); it is not shared with third parties.

We do not collect special categories of sensitive data, we do not run advertising, and we do not sell your data.

3. Why we use your data and our legal basis

PurposeLegal basis under PDPA
Create and manage your account, authenticate your loginPerformance of a contract with you
Store your rounds and calculate your Handicap IndexPerformance of a contract with you
Approve new accounts and prevent abuseLegitimate interest
Keep the Service secure and functioning (logs)Legitimate interest
Send you service emails (e.g. account approval)Performance of a contract / legitimate interest
Optional future communicationsYour consent (which you may withdraw at any time)

4. Where your data is stored (international transfer)

The Service is hosted on the infrastructure of Infomaniak Network SA in Switzerland. This means your data is stored on secure servers in Switzerland, not in Thailand. Switzerland provides a strong, internationally recognised level of data protection. Where personal data is transferred out of Thailand, we rely on this adequate level of protection and appropriate safeguards, as permitted under the PDPA.

5. Cookies and local storage

We keep this minimal:

  • Essential login storage. After you sign in, the app stores a login token in your browser’s local storage so you don’t have to log in on every visit. Clearing your browser data removes it and logs you out.
  • WordPress cookies. Our website uses standard WordPress cookies necessary for the site and, where applicable, the login session to function.

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

6. Who we share data with

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share it only with service providers that help us run the Service, and only to the extent necessary:

  • Infomaniak (Switzerland) — website, application and database hosting, and email delivery.

We may also disclose data if required to do so by law, or to protect our rights, users or the security of the Service.

7. How long we keep your data

We keep your account and golf data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations or to resolve disputes. Server logs are kept only for a limited period for security purposes.

8. Your rights

Under the PDPA, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you and request a copy;
  • rectify data that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • erase your data („right to be forgotten“) where applicable;
  • withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent;
  • object to or restrict certain processing;
  • request portability of the data you provided to us; and
  • lodge a complaint with the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) of Thailand.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at admin@happygolfersthailand.com. You can also delete individual rounds yourself directly in the app.

9. How we protect your data

We use technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including HTTPS encryption for all connections, hashed password storage, token-based authentication, and manual approval of new accounts. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using appropriate safeguards.

10. Children’s privacy

The Service is intended for golfers who are of legal age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 20 without the consent of a parent or legal guardian, as required under the PDPA. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data without such consent, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the „Last updated“ date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated through the Service where appropriate.
